Why you should take an HOUR outdoors

Imagine staring at your screen for six hours straight, and then you finally notice that your eyes are starting to ache, your shoulders have crept up towards your ears, and your brain is starting to feel numb. The instinct is usually to push through by having another coffee or another scroll or another 20 minutes of forcing it.

But sometimes the most productive thing you can do is simply step outside.

The benefit of going outside, even for just 10 minutes:

You don't need a meditation app or yoga mat to refresh your brain. Often, it's as simple as a change of scenery, somewhere that has natural light and fresh air & where you can be a few minutes away from your inbox. Research on "attention restoration" has shown that even brief exposure to green or open spaces helps the brain recover from the mental fatigue that builds up during focused work (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6678788/). Sunlight regulates your body clock, which means a quick outdoor break can genuinely help you feel more alert for the rest of your day.

This is exactly why our courtyard exists: we know how important an outdoor space can be for health.

Our Courtyard:

Our courtyard at Hour Space, one of Colaba's finest coworking spaces, is the kind of spot you don't notice you need until you are sitting in it. It's open air, shaded enough to escape Colaba's midday sun, and quiet enough that you can actually hear yourself think,

Some use it as a reset button: taking a five-minute pause between calls, while some use it as a change of scenery workspace with laptops, headphones, and a corner of the courtyard, or even as a social pause where they end up chatting between meetings and swapping recommendations.

People use it differently, and that's the point.

We didn't design the courtyard just as an "aesthetic" feature. We simply wanted our members to have a space that lets their day breathe a little, and we have noticed that the people who use it regularly tend to come back to their desks a bit more clear-headed.

That's really what our vision was for Hour Space as a whole: giving people back control over their hour, their day, their work rhythm. We have space for deep focus, for community events, and even for doing absolutely nothing.

If you are working from Hour Space and haven't spent time in the courtyard yet, consider this as your nudge. Step outside, leave your laptop behind for a bit, and see what ten minutes of fresh air does for the rest of your hour.
