Seven Years and On

7th Year Anniversary

We'll be honest: we've been meaning to write this for a while.

Last year, Hour Space turned seven. We celebrated, we laughed, we probably overstayed our own party, and then life moved fast, as it tends to, and somehow the blog never got written. Consider this us finally sitting down to do it justice.

Seven Years in Colaba:

When Hour Space first opened its doors in Colaba, the idea was simple: giving Mumbai's independent workers, freelancers, and small teams a place that felt nothing like a corporate office and everything like a space they'd actually want to spend time in. South Mumbai had the history, the architecture, the energy but it didn't have many places where you could show up with a laptop and a deadline and feel genuinely at home.

We wanted to be that place.

What we didn't anticipate was how much the place would be shaped by the people who chose it.

What Seven Years Looks Like:

Seven years is hundreds of members.

It's the early morning regulars who knew the WiFi password before we'd even printed it on a card.

It's the freelancer who signed up for a hot desk and ended up closing their first major client deal from our courtyard.

It's the startup that outgrew us which, as far as we're concerned, is one of the best things that can happen.

It's late evenings that turned into impromptu conversations.

Workshops that went longer than planned because nobody wanted to leave.

It's Colaba outside the window with the same sea, the same old buildings, the same particular quality of afternoon light and something always slightly new happening inside.

What We've Learned

A coworking space is only as good as the community it holds.

We've learned that people don't just need a desk. They need a place where their work feels legitimate, where there's a chance of running into someone interesting, and where the coffee is decent. We've tried to get all three right.

We've learned that South Mumbai has a pace of its own, and we wanted to lean into that.

And Now, Year Eight

Writing this now, a year on gives it a different kind of perspective. Seven felt significant in the moment. But standing here in our eighth year, it feels even more so. Because everything we celebrated then has only grown since.

So if you missed the party, consider this the belated toast. To seven remarkable years, to the community that made them, and to everything still ahead.
